 Tools - TR2WAD
|

|
TR2WAD is a program that loads TR levels and creates WAD
and TGA files from it. Some of the functions will be added in WADMerger
too, and TR2WAD will get more functions to create levels for other TR
games in the feature.

Switches
If you convert switches, there is a change that the
animations won't work. It might need a special OCB. I looked at the
animations and it seems the animations didn't change since the beginning.
The small lever switch animation (Lara ani 195 & 196) is still
included. The small push button is Lara ani 197. But I don't know the OCB.
But these animations don't mean that the OCB is also available. I checked
some animations and I saw that Core used the same animations from the
first TR, only with some new added at the end of the list. The zip-line
animations (Lara ani 214 & 215) are still included in TR4, but there
is no zipline. This is just to make TR easy to make. They just used the
old TR1 stuff for TR2-5. That's why the corner bugs are still available.
The using keycard animation is also included
(131). Solution: If you replace the animation from
a switch you don't use with the new one. For example, replace the big
push-switch animation (Lara ani 413) with the little lever switch ani
(Lara ani 197). The reach-in-hole animation is 325. I replaced animation
325 by 197 and the little push-switch worked! Just enter 1 in the OCB.
Here are some animation numbers: Lever switch: 63&64 Small level
switch: 195&196 Small push button: 197 Big push button:
413 Reach-in-hole: 325 Underwater (Ceiling): 415 Underwater
(Wall): 129 To do this, you can use the AI
Editor program. You can use these numbers to change
them. |
Vehiles
Currently I only copied the quad, speedboat and the
snowmobile. The snowmobile worked, but it did strange when you leave the
ground (after a slope). Quad Bike The problem on the quad
is that one wheel turns around the quad. This is not a TR2WAD bug, it
seems to be a problem that the Quad and moterbike aren't compatible. As a
jeep isn't possible, because the jeep seems to be very hardcoded and all
the animations are wrong. TR4 has only vehiles that runs on land, not
in water (the boat, UPU and kayak) or on tracks (the mine cart). This
means only vehiles on land can be used, unless if you use water textures
as the land. No more than 1 differend vehile at a time. You can choose
between a moterbike or a jeep. The moterbike can have nitro, but you can
only enter it from 1 side. The jeep can be entered from both sides, but it
needs a key to enter and it is very hardcoded. |
Speedboat Long time ago everybody (even me)
said it was impossible, but I found a way to make the speedboat in TR4.
It's very hard and it doesn't really work perfect yet, but it's the
beginning of it. Just look at the 2 screenshots (click them for a larger
version). It even has the Young Lara! Download it

Enemies
You can copy any enemie to the level editor and it will
show up as it should be. But the level editor only displays the mesh using
the position and rotations from the moveable (see first picture). In the
game it won't be displayd like that. The game will look what the enemie is
doing and translate that into a state. It will search the animations for
that state and play that animation. Unfortunately, the stateIDs are
differend in the other TR games. If you look at the second picture, you
see a TR5 guard running with his head turned. This is in the game after he
was triggered. He keeps running in that direction and you can't kill him.
To fix that, all states must be remapped to the TR4 states. I'll maybe do
that in the future. But there are some enemies that don't need
converting to work. The DOG is a good example. A TR5 dog can bite, run,
jump in TR4. The only problem is the non-collesion of the dog that makes
him unable to kill with non-explosive ammo.

Lara models & weapons
You can copy all Lara models you want, but the problem is
that Lara uses 2 moveables for her meshes, 4 for her holsters (with and
without guns) and 6 for her gun animations (with a gun in her hands and
some with a gun on her back). If you have a shutgun on your bag, that mesh
will replace the original. If you copy only the meshes and take out the
shutgun, it will be replaced with the original outfit. The solution is to
copy all these meshes, but there are no levels that have all these
weapons. The crosbow is a weapon in TR4 only and you won't find it in any
other level (except Del's level in TR5). The only other solution
is extracting the guns and placing these back after importing Lara. That
means all gun animations and holsters will get the Lara meshes first and
then the gun mesh and the Lara mesh will be merged. I haven't done that
yet, On the picture you can see the extracted Lara from the Base
level. I copied all moveables from Lara that the Base level has, so only
the pistols, uzis and desert eagle works. All other guns will make the
game to crash.
